Airline schedules change. We check the flights operating on the day before recommending a commercial transfer. Other routes: air ambulance cost by route.

Before you fly

Four things can delay a transfer from the Gulf. Start them as soon as the transfer is being considered.

  • Hospital discharge and exit formalities

The treating hospital must discharge the patient and confirm fitness to fly. Check early whether hospital bills, the residence visa or, after an accident, a clearance from the local authorities could delay departure.

  • Airline medical clearance

For a stretcher or an escorted seat, the airline’s medical department must approve the patient first. This usually takes a few days.

  • Visa for India

Indian passport holders and OCI card holders do not need a visa. Other nationals travelling for treatment need an Indian Medical Visa, with Medical Attendant visas for companions.

  • Receiving hospital

We send the case file to the hospital in India and confirm the bed before departure.

Three ways to travel

Air ambulance services between the Middle East and India run in three ways. The patient’s condition decides which of them are possible. The time available and the price decide between them.

Private ICU air ambulance jet

For critical or unstable patients. A jet with a full ICU team flies to the patient’s schedule and reaches most Indian cities from the Gulf without a stop.

Commercial airline stretcher

For stable patients who must lie flat. A stretcher is fitted in the airline cabin and a doctor or nurse travels alongside.

Medical escort in an airline seat

For stable patients who can sit upright. A doctor or nurse travels in the next seat, with oxygen and medicines.

Medevac and air ambulance services in the Middle East

The Middle East combines advanced medical centres with desert operations, offshore platforms, remote work sites and large events. Safe Fly Aviation works with established regional operators, and liaises with the treating and receiving doctors, case managers and family members, so that everyone understands the risks, benefits and logistics of the transfer.

What we arrange

  • Fixed-wing ICU air ambulance jets for critical and high-dependency patients.
  • Short medevac flights between cities within the Gulf and nearby regions, including evacuation from remote sites to tertiary hospitals.
  • Long-range medical repatriation to India, Europe, Asia, Africa or the Americas.
  • Medical escort on scheduled airlines, with or without a stretcher, when approved by the airline.

Typical patients

  • Cardiac and stroke cases in need of advanced treatment not available locally.
  • Trauma patients from road accidents, industrial incidents or sporting injuries.
  • Oncology, transplant and complex surgical patients returning home after treatment.
  • Paediatric and neonatal cases that need specialised support in flight, subject to availability.

Each flight is planned around flight time, oxygen requirements, cabin altitude, landing options and crew duty limits.

Routes beyond India

From any of the six Gulf countries, we also coordinate medevac and repatriation flights to the rest of Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas. See air ambulance services in Europe, Africa and the Americas.

Air ambulance jets for Gulf routes

For air ambulance services in the Middle East, the jet is chosen for the distance, the patient’s condition and the airports at each end. Each carries a stretcher, a ventilator, monitoring and oxygen, with a doctor and a nurse or paramedic as the case requires.

Photos show examples of each type. The aircraft for a transfer depends on the route and the operator available. Maximum range is the manufacturer’s figure; with a patient, a medical team and fuel reserves on board the practical range is shorter. Full figures: air ambulance aircraft.

Between the UAE and India, a transfer costs about ₹5 lakh to ₹8.75 lakh with a medical escort on a commercial flight, ₹7.5 lakh to ₹15 lakh on a commercial stretcher, and ₹27 lakh to ₹45 lakh by private ICU jet. These are budget ranges reviewed in October 2026, and they apply in either direction. Each transfer is quoted in writing after the medical report is reviewed.

How much do air ambulance services from Saudi Arabia or Qatar to India cost?

Between Saudi Arabia or Qatar and India, a transfer costs about ₹6.25 lakh to ₹10 lakh with a medical escort on a commercial flight, ₹8.75 lakh to ₹16.25 lakh on a commercial stretcher, and ₹30 lakh to ₹52.5 lakh by private ICU jet. How long does a medical flight from the Gulf to India take?

Nonstop scheduled flights take about 3 hours from Dubai or Muscat to Mumbai, and about 4 to 5 hours from Riyadh, Doha, Kuwait or Bahrain to Delhi. Which Middle East countries does Safe Fly Aviation cover?

Safe Fly Aviation supports air ambulance and medevac flights across the United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi), Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam), Qatar (Doha), Bahrain (Manama), Oman (Muscat) and Kuwait (Kuwait City).

What destinations can a patient be repatriated to from the Middle East?

Long-range medical repatriation is arranged from the Middle East to India, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, depending on the patient’s home country or the specialist hospital required.

What types of patients are transferred from the Middle East?

Typical cases include cardiac and stroke patients who need advanced treatment not available locally, trauma patients from road accidents, industrial incidents or sporting injuries, oncology, transplant and complex surgical patients returning home after treatment, and paediatric or neonatal cases that need specialised support in flight, subject to availability.

Can you arrange a medical escort on a commercial flight instead of a dedicated air ambulance?

Yes. Medical escort and stretcher cases can be arranged on scheduled commercial airlines where appropriate and approved by the airline. This costs less than a dedicated air ambulance jet and suits patients who are stable enough to travel this way.

Do you work with insurers, embassies and corporate risk programmes in the Middle East?

Yes. Safe Fly Aviation supports corporate risk programmes, insurers, assistance companies and embassies with case coordination, transparent quotes and clear updates throughout a Middle East medevac or repatriation case.
